Jeremy and I are hiking the Te Araroa, an 1,800 mile trail that traverses the entire country of New Zealand from north to south.  Our journey will be around 4-5 months long starting in December of 2015 and ending around April of 2016.  When Jeremy completed the Appalachian Trail in 2010, he raised money for a nonprofit in an effort to help a noble cause and stay motivated on the trail.  I thought his idea was wonderful, so we decided to raise money for another nonprofit on our Te Araroa adventure.  We chose HopeWorks, a nonprofit that is very close to our hearts.  For one, my dad is the executive director. But more importantly, because of our own experiences, we believe in the power of grace and second chances.  There will be very tough days on the trail and knowing we are helping others as we hike will give us motivation to keep moving forward as we are serving a greater cause. -Anna

HopeWorks, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to serve the under-resourced through outreach programs that develop individual worth, encourage personal responsibility and promote the honor and value of work. By implementing a holistic approach through daily classes and meals, educational training and spiritual counseling, HopeWorks strives to break the cycle of crime, addiction and generational poverty that traps so many in Memphis, Tennessee.

If you want to follow along with our journey, subscribe to our blog through email.  If you want to be even more involved, please consider donating as all proceeds go to HopeWorks.  We believe in second chances and HopeWorks is giving others another chance to earn their GED, learn valuable life skills, and participate in internships — all through a faith-based organization.  So many people have turned their lives around through the power of the gospel and are encouraged by faith mentors at HopeWorks.  Please consider being involved in our hike, by giving to HopeWorks.

Not only will your gift mean the world to the HopeWorks students, it will also mean a lot to us that you are coming alongside us and contributing to a cause we are extremely passionate about.

How it works:

If you would like to give to HopeWorks on behalf of our journey, there are two different ways to do so:

1. If you would like to make a one-time donation now or at any time during our hike, please go to the “One Time Donation” page on their website. Under the “Gift In Honor” field, write “NZ Adventure”.

2. If you would like to make a per mile pledge that is contingent on the amount of miles we complete out of 1800, fill out the form below.  You will not have to enter any payment information at this time.  At the end of the hike, Hopeworks will send you a follow-up email with the amount of miles Anna and Jeremy completed with instructions on how to follow through with your pledge.  Even just a penny per mile goes a long way!

Reminder: HopeWorks Inc is a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization and your support of the mission of HopeWorks is tax-deductible.
